Dr. Cowan is a native of Somerset, KY. After graduating summa cum laude from the University of the Cumberlands (formerly Cumberland College) in Williamsburg, KY, he attended the University of Kentucky College of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society (the highest honor which can be bestowed upon a medical student).

He then completed an internship at New York University Department of Internal Medicine and went on to receive his dermatology training at the prestigious Emory University Department of Dermatology in Atlanta, GA. During his final year of residency, he was elected chief resident.

At Emory, he was exposed to all aspects of dermatology including extensive training in advanced surgical techniques including grafts, flaps and other complicated surgical closures. From 2005-2008 Dr. Cowan was trained by some of the top Mohs surgeons in the nation. Since 2005, Dr. Cowan has performed over 15,000 Mohs surgery cases.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Cowan has presented at the national American Academy of Dermatology meeting and was awarded the Donald C. Abele Symposium award. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Louisville Division of Dermatology and the University of Louisville Department of Family Practice educating future dermatologists and family physicians. 

In his spare time, Dr. Cowan enjoys being outdoors spending time with his family (wife Amy and twins, Jack and Kate). He also enjoys traveling, hiking, hobby farming, and visiting National Parks.

Kristy Keeney grew up right down the road in Monticello, KY where she graduaded from Monticello High School, and then went on to graduate from Somerset Community College, Eastern Kentucky University, and Western Kentucky University as she became a State Registereed Nurse Aide, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Registered Nurse along the way. Kristy was also a member of the Sima Theta Tau International Honors Society. In her free time, Kristy truly enjoys spending time with her family. Whether they are farming their vegetable garden together, camping, or traveling, the Keeneys are sure to be having a great time together; especially if hitting a baseball game.
